So, I wake up this morning and see a post written by Darren Slatten completely dismissing the importance of Online Reputation Management. (No, I am not going to link to a post like that!) And, I found the post a little comedic at best, so, I’ll give him a little bit of credit for that, but, one thing I won’t give him credit for is researching the topic. Now, I am not going to attack Darren personally or professionaly, this is just a rebuttle post telling you why ORM is EXTREMELY important…

It’s been about a week since we had the Jane & Robot meetup at Yahoo! Santa Monica and I finally have a chance to wrap up the event. I have to say, putting that whole event together with help from some very wonderful people was probably one of the funnest things I’ve done.
First and foremost, it was awesome to have Nathan Buggia and Vanessa Fox out in Santa Monica talking about Search Friendly Web Development…

I want to start by saying that raising funding or Angel Capital is something I have ABSOLUTELY no experience with, so, it was absolutely great to hear a panel on something where I was thoroughly engaged. Not to mention the rock star line up of Los Angeles Technology entrepreneurs that were on the panel: Brett Brewer, Rick Smith, Matt Coffin, Bryce Benjamin, Kamran Pouzanjani, and Jeff Tinsley.
Anywho, big thanks to Jason Nazar and Docstoc for setting this up again at the Santa Monica Public Library…

Well, there has been talk about Twitter integrating its Search functionality into their main site. It turns out the twitter team was testing this out and it has now integrated into the main site, with some pretty interesting functionality.
Trending in Main Navigation
On the home page, twitter has integrated the latest Trends as a menu item in the main navigation as a drop down.
Twitter Search Results
Clicking on a trend will pull up the new twitter search page…

Lots a brewing on the Skittles madness tonight because of they’re new “Social Media Aggregation” for their domain. The question I have is, was this a move of pure genius? Or, are they shooting themselves in the foot!
Age and Demographics to get Started:
To start with, before you start to interact with anything Skittles, they make you enter your age. Which, could be a great thing for the simple fact that they could start collecting the demographics of who their main audience is…

(Yes, Jason, you can use me as a Case Study =P )
Normally, I never write posts telling you about how great a single company is, but, in this case, I feel it is absolutely necessary. Every presentation I give now, I quickly upload to DocStoc before I go up and tweet out the URL. The reason for this is easy access for the crowd and in case of technical glitches.
First and foremost, I do it so that those that are looking to feverishly write down slide notes or anything of that nature, don’t have to worry about it…

I could go on and on for hours about how people abuse relationships because I am sooo passionate about the topic. Within Internet Marketing, I have developed some solid relationships with and would work with them, partner with them, and/or hang out with them at the drop of a dime. The problem here is that there are people that don’t understand there is big difference between someone that is a contact vs…

I was listening in on Office Hours on WebmasterRadio.fm today and the question came up of how to find the referrer URL from StumbleUpon to your site. When you look at Google Analytics the referrer shows up as refer.php or toolbar. This won’t take you to the page that refers to your URL, similar to how digg would do something like /movies/some-movie-specific-url. It is a little bit of a process to figuring this out and also keeping in mind that a large percentage of StumbleUpon users view new pages via the Stumble button…

When you are working at an organization that doesn’t have the right analytics, its painful. This also goes for working with clients that don’t have the money to buy an analytics package like Omniture or WebTrends. I’ve been through this on both sides of the organizational and the client side as well. (A couple times it was even my fault! Ooops, my bad! ). It is important to understand that not providing metrics and/or reporting or being able to measure certain aspects of your job and/or client work is going to have a negative effect on your overall performance…
